I haven't narrowed down an exact cause yet, but each and every time I try to sync actions right now, I'll get around 90% complete syncing actions (per the iphone's status bars), then the app crashes out.

I can only presume I have an action on my computer that is causing this, but I haven't found it yet. Just wanted to make you aware that it's happening.

I found the culprit in the IDE Log. My gut feeling is that my action notes are just too long:

Thanks. What is the brand name on the razor (Either on the handle or the shank)? -----Original Message----- From: Tony Shadwick [mailto:censored] Sent: Tuesday, February 02, 2010 9:55 AM To: Lynn Abrams Subject: Re: Hone for a Solingen blade. http:/1/1www.flickr.com/1photos/1numbski/13139002459/1sizes/1l/1 This is the first time I have heard that name... Hi Tony,

The honing fee is $20 unless the razor really needs some extra work
and the
shipping is $5.65 for priority with confirmation in the US. If this
is still
the Kamisori razor, let me know as in my opinion, these are really
substandard razors and I have been returning them to customers. They
are
very tricky to hone and have not proved to be decent shavers or hold
an
edge.

You can ship to me at:

My paypal ID is censored and all you need to do is
include a
note with the razor indicating honing and your return address/1contact
information.

Let me know if any other questions.

Thanks!

So...I've sat on my "new" razor for a year now, still needing to be
sharpened.  Please refresh my memory as to how much and where to send
it?

Don't know if a grainy camera phone pic will help, but here you go:

Hi Tony,

Well.......Not sure on the razor as there are Kamisori's that have
Solingen
etched and a couple others that really are not that good of razor.
Some
however, are OK, but need to see to be sure. A 1000
grit stone is
really
more for setting bevels than for everyday honing. The 4K/18K would
be a
good
start. Return shipping is $5.45 for priority with confirmation, but
it
will
be going up a little after the first of the year. Razors are much
different
than knives when sharpening as the edges a way more delicate. Most
people
just wrap them in bubble wrap or something protective when they
send them.

Let me know if any other questions and we'll try to get you to be
able to
enjoy straight razor shaving.

Thanks,

Hey, my wife bought me a straight razor, and I'm reading up on your
site.  She also got me a leather stroke, and a whet stone labelled
"Col.
Ichabod Conk".  Looks to be somewhere between an 800-1000 grit
stone.

Anyway, after failing miserably to sharpen the thing (blade flat -
contrary to my old boy scout days...), and even though I'm
following all
of the motions described, it looks to me like the right thing to do
is
just send it in to you, and possibly take this whet stone back, as
everything I'm reading says a 4000/18000 stone is more appropriate.

Anyway, don't mind sending it to you and including return postage.
Just
curious what a good way to package it up is, and what to include for
return shipping. :)

BTW - the blade has "Solingen" and "Made in Germany" etched (not
painted) in it.

I take that back. I shortened the above up significantly, and it just did the same thing only on a different task generated by an email.

Something is up...

After futzing with this for a while, what I've found is that any significantly long email can crash the iPhone app during the sync process.

This is not good - I have to then hunt down the guilty email and trim it.

A PC-side warning either before or during the sync needs to be put in place that the sync will fail, and to please shorten up your notes so that the sync will succeed. I'd thought about having it automatically truncate the notes on sync, but that seems like a bad idea unto itself. You'd think there would be a way to change the field type on the phone to where it will work. I got the impression from discussing the migration to a database backend that TR/iPhone uses sqlite3. Maybe a field type change is in order?

Thanks for the detailed report. Sorry to hear you've been having trouble.

The sync code has undergone significant improvement, including a fix for the fault I you've encountered.

While we knew there is a max note size of around 4500 characters, it turns out there was a quirk in the tcpip stack
that caused problems with notes over 1200 characters. This also depended on the network performance and didn't happen for everyone.

This was a *tough* bug to find and fix.

I should also note (pun intended) that the new version of the app has better support for viewing long notes.
The next version is currently going through the approval process.

ThinkingRock iPhone version 1.5 is now available on the App Store.

To sync with TR you will need to have the latest version (3.0.1.9) of the "TR iPhone Sync" plugin module installed.
