Several people (including me) have asked about search and folder functionality for Reference items. It occurred to me that a workaround would be to create a Project called Reference, and file reference information under this project. That way I would have all the search/folder functionality I would want.

Similarly, I could create a folder for Someday/Maybe Items for the same reasons. Also would be easier to switch views, and move actions and projects between current and Someday/Maybe.

So far, the only downside I can see is the automatic reprocessing (tickling) of Someday/Maybe; but there are enough date options in Projects and Actions that I'm sure I could accomplish the same functions.

Anyone done this? Anyone see a downside?

Thanks.

It is a good workaround that I myself have implemented. I'd still like to see reference being separated from projects for better housekeeping, though. Imagine someday we have TR in mobile devices, for instance. As the amount of data in Reference increases, you would like to be able to separate that from "normal" projects so that your device doesn't get overloaded with data you might not want to carry around.

I proposed having folders and subfolders for Reference but it didn't look like the developers were very enthusiastic about that idea. If you can just have folders and subfolders for reference and have the possibility of saving projects and reference separately, I think you can have a pretty good system.

Hi. I agree that folders would be useful.

More importantly, I'm wondering how the ref notes are or could be integrated with other programs (I use Mac OSX) or search functions. Otherwise, it seems to me that all the capacity for notes, whether refs or actions, have fairly limited utility. Is that right? Have people made extensive use of the TR notes?

Forgive my newbie questions. (New to forum, though I've used TR for maybe a year.)

I used notes to put more details:
- when it is an action delegated, I can keep track of emails;
- when it is an action scheduled corresponding to a meeting, I will put my notes from the meeting or a link to the minutes;

I used them a lot.
