Great to hear about beta date in sight. Been watching topic ever since it was announced and like many jotted down various ideas and potential app collaboration, and would very much like to beta test if being put out to members.

+1 for your proposed commercial android app model. I became a member as id been using the free app for a few years and was a way to both support and get more features. As they mobile platform is so essential these days i think it'll provide the most incentive for people to join up which in turn will help fund future development of desktop and app. It could also be a case of where your generosity of giving tr away for free could really come into its own.

For the future regarding iphone app, My girlfriend has that app and is avid thinking rock desktop user and would like to see it develop, so maybe in the future there will be potential for the iphone app maker to collaborate with jeremy by (fopr instance) adding various special features by adopting some of the android code (if thats poss with two different plaftforms) in exchange for members signing up, thereby improving their app and people buying it, and increasing your membership which brings more funds and users into the development for tr an the android.

Either way nice work and keep us posted

Very good progress on the Android, hoping to get something to test by the end of this week.
Oh Yeah!!!

Commercial question: what if we give the Android app for free but you only get the sync module if you are a member/have a license? It simplifies the distribution for us, we get better revenues (also Google is taking a 30% cut to distribute the app as Apple does and the TR licence is more than what we can sell the Android app for).

Any opinion?
Give the app for free will be good for enlarging the users group.
I'm a member. But i would make a free version available for the starters as well.
Just so they get to learn and "feel" how TR works.
And nowadays, you cant do that without ur smartphone (syncing) anymore.
Just limit the functionality a bit.

Once they learn the value of working with GTD and TR, they will become members if they can pay, or at least spread the word :-]
Like i did and do!!!

The TR team version will be at next move, after providing a calendar view for the single user version.
Team version, sounds interesting.

YES YES YES, Calendar view. Love it!
PLUS the ability to open the ics/calendar file in my android i Hope wish pray!!!???

Right now i sometimes import the TR ics/calendar into my gmail/calendar, which i have to manually update into my phone.
But off course its not functional if it isn't updated all the time...

To create a new appointment, i make a new appointment into another (the android) calendar.
Plus i invite myself which sends an email towards my TR email.
So it appears in my TR inbox.

Would be great to automatically export/import/update into my android calendar.

Hi Claire,
Good to hear that a first android version is almost there. If you need additional people to test, pls let me know.

+1 for the model that you are thinking off (free android app, membership via desktop app).

Additionally it might be interesting to open source the android client. While you and Jeremy focus on improving TR overall other people would have the ability to provide additional features to the android client not thought of before, like (without knowing what your initial version is going to include):
- adding speech recognition for controlling TR in the car (all Phone contexts) and recording thoughts by voice,
- or tweeting the progress of all actions (oh help no...)
- integration with Tasker (when connected to Carkit alert me if i did not finish all my high prio @Office actions)
- proximity features for TR-clients like 'hand stuff A when you are within 100m of person X';
Just thinking out loud here...

Although i am not sure if the potential TR developer community would be large enough for this development to actually happen.

Keep up to good work, i will now leave you to it :-)

Kind regards,
Bram.

I too have been eagerly awaiting the Android app. Looks like we are really close at long last. I'd love to beta test. I think the free app with sync for paid members makes a lot of sense.

Jeremy has almost finished all the screens except action details. He needs to do the postpone functionality and the edit notes.

Then we need a screen for the settings.

Of course, he kept the easiest for last(...): rework on the sync. Don't we all do that.

I am hoping to get a release to test sometimes next week.
