Hi

thanks very much, no hurry
can't see error logs, because can't get into programme
unless you can point me to them,
in which case I'll copy them to you

Thanks

Re:Linux 3.1.2 install problem 15 years 2 months ago #2090

Hi

I think it might be a java problem, when I try to run tr through a terminal I get an error message saying that it can't find java, and asks me to use the --javahome switch.

Does this mean that tr prefers java openjdk, or it is happy with sun java?

Or have I misunderstood the issue?

This may be something to do with Ubuntu rather than tr.

Any clues?

Thank you

Jonathan

sun java is probably better.

The installer logs should be in ~/.nbi

you need to have read/write permission for the dir you install TR in.

<bump>

Ubuntu 9.10 LTS / TR 3.1.2

I did have TR 3.0.3 working on this computer and have been upgraded it.

I've installed it twice. Once as my own user ID into my Home directory (which I have access to) and Once as sudo into /usr/local/.

It copies the files, sets up the icons on the Applications menu and all looks hunky dorey. When executing the application from the application menu, nothing happens. Going to the <install directory>/tr/bin (where install directory has been both /home/paul and /usr/local) and manually executing the tr program using "./tr" results in the message:

Cannot find java. Please use the --jdkhome switch.

I've googled this and it seems to be a Netbeans thing. So I installed Netbeans from the Ubuntu repository. Unfortunately that's had no effect.

Typing "which java" results in:

/usr/bin/java

typing "java -version" results in:

java version "1.6.0_18"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.8) (6b18-1.8-0ubuntu1)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode, sharing)

(The "standard" Java install from the Ubuntu repository)

I can't find a .nbi folder in my home directory, but did find a .netbeans folder, which doesn't contain a log file, just a file call .superId.

Hope this provides a little more debugging info. Let me know if you need anything else.
And can I just say that you guys do a splendid job on this product, I use it everyday.

Many Thanks,

Paul
