It's a good point - how far can a small team with limited resources go. However I think this is a case of having to, rather than wanting to. Placing all the development resources into an Android/iOS platform at the expense of a platform-agnostic cloud application seems to me to be somewhat short-sighted. What you are essentially doing is hitching your wagon to a vendor's cart with the hope they are going in your direction. What happens if a new platform comes out that changes everything? Blackberry 10 or a Windows platform?

Plus - like it or not - cloud-based business apps are growing rapidly in popularity. Thinking Rock's competitors are following this model. The cloud -based versions I've tried are still behind, but the gap is closing rapidly. And they all have Android/iPhone apps. Even with an acceptable mobile app, Thinking Rock doesn't have these options available. Once a cloud based version comes along that ticks all the boxes, it's goodbye everyone else. Thinking Rock is the best GTD app around - no question. It would be a tragedy if TR was to lose its crown as #1 because it didn't move fast enough to capture the cloud space.

It's funny. I picked TR *because* it didn't require I stick my data out on the cloud to be able to sync it with my iPhone. I had used ToodleDo previously, which worked ok, but I didn't want to stick confidential work data out on the cloud storage for it.

I guess what I'm saying is, cloud is nice, but I'm guessing there are more than a few current users that won't switch to it, even if you do make it available...

What would be more helpful for me is:
1. A fully functional IOS app
2. A way to sync between my phone and multiple instances of the desktop. In other words, sync from my work machine to my phone, then from my phone to my home machine to get the data synced up between them all.

If you get that working, syncing to the cloud would be (relatively) trivial because you can push the data around multiple instances of the app without corruption.
Last Edit: 12 years 9 months ago by vortechs2000. Reason: Added more details about syncing

I also think cloud is not exactly the priority here. And most importantly, if it ever happens, please make it totally optional! TR is the ONLY GTD-like app I found out there that does not force us to have our data on their servers. Some of us cannot use such services at work. And some of us don't like to have our personal information online.

I think what is needed first is smart sync of different data files, like between computers on a network, or with the copy on dropbox. If that was achieved, it would effectively be like a cloud except users would control where the "cloud" is. Not to mention it removes the added resources and responsibility of data security from TR. (This was suggested here: www.trgtd.com.au/index.php/tr-forum?func=view&catid=14&id=5505)
