I've looked through the manual and poked around the app, and I cannot find a way to assign a due date to a project. Can this be done?

If not, it would be worthwhile to add this feature, with a way to sort projects by the due date. Without it, the only way I can see to get the due date anywhere in the project is to create the final task with a scheduled date. When there are many actions to complete before that final one, it is annoying to keep seeing that final task in my list of actions.

An example of the functionality I am looking for:

As a lawyer, the final task in a project is often the filing of a document with the court or putting it in the mail by a certain date. My project might be "File opposition to Defendant's Motion." If that opposition is due in court on October 1, I'd like to be able to assign that date to the project directly.

You can assign due date and start date to project. You need to set it under Miscellaneous/PRoject Tab. Tick the boxes to indicate that you want to use these fields. BTW, there are also a few optional fields for action under the Action tab.

Regarding sorting by due date, I can only suggest to re-order the projects manually on the project hierarchy.

Your idea of having a final task to file the documents is good. Instead of creating a schedule one, you could create an inactive one with the Due Date as '1st October' (example below) and a start date a few days before. When the start date is reached, the action will automatically become asap and appears on your list.

With these filing actions, you could also create a new Tab on the Review Actions screen where you can filter all these actions and order them by start date for example.

Except for recording purposes. Does the due/start date on projects do anything?

The start date is used if you have future project. Once the start date is reached, TR moves the project from the Future projects tab to the Current projects tab automatically.

Ok, that makes sense. I didn't notice that although I did notice, that behaviour in future projects if an action within a project had a start date.

For the due dates of projects: Why not simply give thouse projects another color (apart from green and red) that a due date within the next week or so?

Best regards,

Ralf
