Good day to all.
www.businessinsider.com/the-future-of-mo...&utm_campaign=sai#-1

This is where the trend goes.

After 2 years TR iOS app is still the same - main use case is to capture thoughts and read-only repository for actions.

People are looking for a smart and easy way to do routine tasks, for smth that turns routine into joy, for a cute cut app!
iOS app should be driving TR evolution!

If this makes any sence we can continue the discussion with specific features.

Regards,
Sergei.

I have the same opinion. The iOS app must get considerably more functions. I would be also ready to pay for the app more if it gets more functions.

The presentation is good. Many thanks to Sergei.

IMHO.
I think people are ready to pay the same money as for Things and Omnifocus for mature TR iOS app.
1) Sleek graphical design + 2) smart intelligence + 3) ease of use + 4) Integration - that's what in demand.

Sergei.

Regarding actions, you can update their notes and mark them done.
There are now five views for actions including a Today one and Overdue one. The actions can be sorted and filtered to correspond to user needs.

You have now your reference items on the iPhone, for which you can update the notes.

We have also added projects, and you can update all project text fields: vision, brainstorming, organising, purpose and notes.

Next we will concentrate on improving the project hierarchy display, filtering, maybe show actions linked to the project and I would like to have a global find.

Regarding process thoughts, we had lots of problem fitting everything into a desktop screen so we might be able to do something for the iPad but I don't think it will be useful on an iPhone screen size. Also creating new action on a mobile app and sync them back to the desktop will open a big can of worm (Aussie expression which still amuses me).

For me, it is easy enough to quickly process my thoughts on the desktop.

Good day to all!
1) I still can not select multiple items on filter. High demand for that.
2) I still can not create my own views similar to desktop app. Ideally I want to sync views of iOS app with desktop.
In fact the way action screens are made with tabs on desktop could be better.
Think of it as there are two independent objects - tabs and views. At the moment each tab has preset view for it. I can not open a new tab and assign it any view. Making it that way would increase usability. When I work and deal with new things I have a new view for that (like perspective in Omnifocus) but making it in TR is a pain - it takes about 10 minutes... too much.

3) Projects on iOS not usable so far if you have them more then 20. I have ~ 100 projects and scrolling through that list is not an option.

4) Processing thoughts - I don't think that iOS app should mimic desktop. Processing thoughts on desktop is also painless - too many clicks... Very very often when processing user wants action to be ASAP for Today or ASAP for Tomorrow - why not making one button for it? Today|Tomorrow.
Also about processing on desktop app - make this a selective process. Add a checkbox to the left and when user starts processing he/she processes only items that are checked. Very convenient when you have 20 thoughts to process and you have only 3 for today.

5) Still can not push reference items into thoughts on iOS. Should be technically simple but very handy feature that helps you to work offline.
6) Sync is one of the biggest problems. It should be zero effort sync. Now it takes about 1 minute on my data and I have to have both PC and iPhone in hands...
Ideally it should be a zero effort sync based on public or private cloud. Those who store sensitive data will not use public cloud like dropbox. I would use personal WebDav server. Should be pretty easy for iOS to access webDav.

7) Agree with global find - high demand for that

8) Agree with feature to view actions assigned to projects.

I would say that zero effort sync is #1 and it will be the biggest feature in development effort cos it changes internal data format and all logic should be updated on iOS. But zero effort sync is a must since it's a standard.

Take a look and Omnifocus, Firetask and Things. TR users want nothing but to have a better app then those all 3 together.

Let me know if it makes sence.
Regards,
Sergei.

I certainly know the TR for iPad needs a lot of improvement. I love TR due to how faithfully it follows closely the GTD methodology.

I think that rather than replicate desktop functionality on the tablet, look for a use case that best suits a tablet. I think that is GTD Review. That implies

- being able to see and modify project hierarchies
- calendar view where u can drag tasks around
- some kind of dashboard with stats/graphs (percentages of tasks done vs due, overdue, started etc, number of tasks done per day/week/month etc)

And it might seem superficial, but the current iPad app is an eye-sore. A beautifully designed app must never be underestimated. The other less capable GTD ipad apps there are really goodlooking and nothing wrong with copying some of those features.

Score ++1 for better integration into Calendars
