The executable for Windows can be used on Linux. You need to run java -jar. I have changed the page where you can download the executable to mention Linux. Let me know if the instructions are unclear.

Nice idea.
I'm running it on Ubuntu, but the sound doesn't work so I keep on missing the alarms.
In the meantime I can recommend Alarm Clock applet (alarm-clock.pseudoberries.com/)
