Hi!

In the Linux version, I have the same issue with RC2 as with RC1: The action screen does not appear.

When clicking the button, selecting it from the menu or using C-S-a, I instead get to the Projects screen, with the Future and Templates tabs missing.

Known bug. I had the same today.

Try to delete ReviewActions.xml in the data directory or copy it from your backup.

Also delete %AppData%\.thinkingrock folder. On Windows you get to this by typing %AppData% into "MyComputer" or into the "Run" command.

I have tried all recommended solutions, but actions screen is still freezing up (Windows). Any new solutions?

I have lost my actions screen again. This time after processing a load of thoughts. Most were turned into actions, some reference items and one or two deleted.

All that remains in the ReviewActions file are 2 lines, one beginning with the xml version and the other beginning '<screens'.

Deleting the file and starting TR again fixed it.

Just lost the top half of my actions screen. Deletion of ReviewActions.xml cured the problem. I have been unable to re-produce the error.

I had opened TR, reviewed actions, created a single unprocessed Thought (with a pasted, 68-line, note), closed TR, re-opened and processed the Thought. This is because initially I wasn't sure how to process this thought and then had a brain-wave.

I wondered if I was opening TR while it was still saving its files. However I worked through the same steps including the 68-line note. But a quick close and re-open did not reveal the error again.

I've had the same thing happen to me, but can't figure out what I did to cause it - it only happened once and I can't reproduce it. Now I backup ReviewActions.xml whenever I make a change to my customized action screens to be safe.

Does TR save the ReviewActions file just on exit or does it do so periodically whilst the app is open? Just wondered if that might help us help Jeremy diagnose?

These are the times on Windows Explorer (after refresh) for ReviewActions.xml

11:13 After opening and closing TR (Time per my watch 11:13)
11:16 After adding a tab
11:17 After adding a Thought
11:17 After making a coffee

So I conclude that TR saves ReviewActions after
* user changes TR views (of course)
* any other activity (why?)
* closing (a safety measure)

Odd. For me, my ReviewActions.xml file was dated at close of play yesterday even though I have had TR open for a couple of hours this morning. I have added a couple of thoughts, changed some of the drop-down lists in the Actions view etc and the file does not get updated. I even tried adding an extra colum to one of my actions views. Only seems to modify ReviewActions.xml for me on exit. I am on Windows XP.

Re-tested and you are right! The time did not change after adding a Thought. I wonder what happened the first time round. I am pretty good with numbers but I was a little surprised by my previous result.

Nailed the little wotsit/critter. I think.

Just go to the Process Thoughts screen and close TR.

ReviewActions.xml file has shrunk.

Delete the duff xml file and restart TR ... full xml file is back.

Close TR and re-open.

Go to the Process Thoughts screen and close TR (i.e. you don't need to do any processing).

ReviewActions.xml file has shrunk again.

I *think* that if you go to any other screen after visiting the Process Thoughts screen you will still lose the xml file EXCEPT - if you go back to the Actions screen before quitting ... when the xml file stays in tact.

Can anyone confirm?

Heck I just tested and found if you delete the ReviewActions.xml, open TR, close TR, notice the xml file is 5KB, open TR, close TR, then the ReviewActions.xml is 1KB and all the action screens are missing from it.

I hadn't tried such a simple test until you suggested the processing screen thing Sapphie.

It might also have to do with what the startup screen is in TR. Mine is the default overview screen.

Oh ... so it's not *quite* what I said then - I also have the overview screen as a default and I can confirm that if I just open and close TR, I also lose the xml file contents.

So, looks like my Processing Thoughts thing is a red herring. Maybe what it needs is a return to the Actions screen before closure to protect it?
