This post is basically a bug report and workaround.

I recently tried to install the TR 2.0 Delta on a Windows XP laptop that did not have any previous installations of TR. The installation went fine, but when I tried to start up TR, it complained that I needed to set the user directory and recommended that I do this with the "--userdir" option.

After trying to set this option via the Run command (e.g., thinkingrock.exe --userdir c:\tr-data\ ) and failing to find any documentation on the --userdir option, I tried the next obvious (but annoying) fix: install TR 1.2.3 first, run it, then install TR 2.0 Delta. This worked, but it was annoying.

Please add this test case to your test suite for the final release version of TR.

BTW: I love the product. It's saving my life at work. Keep it up.

\\Joe

Joe -

I resolved a similar message/error by editing the thinkingrock.conf file (which is discussed generally in threads elsewhere).

In my case, I changed the default_userdir line to insert the location of my thinkingrock.exe file.

That section of the .conf file now looks like this:

# ${HOME} will be replaced by JVM user.home system property
default_userdir="F:\Program Files\ThinkingRock2\thinkingrock\bin/.${APPNAME}/dev"

(TR is on my USB drive.)

Hope that helps somebody!

-Dan

Thanks Gunflint!

I tried setting the default_userdir= option as well, but assumed that it wanted to know the location of my .xml data file, rather than the location of the .exe file.

Nice detective work!
