Hi,

Following the tutorials made by Volker, I set up a action review screen, where I have an overview of all @Agenda items.
I use this context only on Delegated items, so I can add the name of the person I want to speak about this action in the "Delegated to" field.

It would be nice if I could add the "Delegated To" field on the review screen as a drop down box (like the time, energy, ... fields).

In the filter list I can only see fields with predefined lists, so I guess it will not be possible...

Maybe someone has another way of implementing an overview for @Agenda items, with a selection field for the person/meeting?

TIA,
Wouter

I will add it to the issues list. There might a way of building a combo list based on your data. It is on the issues list to have the existing Delegated To's appear when you are creating the action.

I will ask Jeremy to extend the search to the Delegated To field. For the time being you can order by Delegated To, at least, they will be grouped together.

Hi,

I made a context for every person that I have regular meetings with. So, instead of @agenda, I have @person x, @ person y, etc.

When I want an overview of all the things that I have to discuss with person x, I just filter the actions view with the 'context' drop down box, and only the items for person x are showing. You can ofcourse do the same in a new tab you make specifically for agenda purposes.

Also: I only use the 'delegated' status of an action for work that I have really delegated to someone (and not for things that I have to discuss with someone). This keeps the 'delegated list' (e.g. in an '@ waiting for' tab like the one Volker suggested in his tutorial), simple and uncluttered.

Greetings,

Geert

I use topics for persons. There are now so many options (that I like) to category things that I don't need topics for anything else. So my topic lists holds all the names of people I work with (including important clients). There's one other item in my topic list: #Today. I use that one to create a shortlist each morning 8)

Hi,

I think both using the topics or the context are two creative ways of dealing with the follow-up of delegated tasks, but neither are fully adequate.

The underlying issue is that delegation is a concept on its own and can only be treated in an elegant way in TR if it is reflected properly in its data model.

The way I see a delegated action is that it is in fact a disguised action for yourself to "follow-up that X has done the delegated stuff". The context for this action is the context where you want to do the follow up.

It is for instance perfectly realistic to put a delegated action in a context of the weekly meeting you have with your team/colleagues (@weeklymtg), along with a set of things you want to discuss at that meeting. In fact there could be delegated actions for lots of team members, if you're managing a team and using GTD/TR for this.

The delegation feature in TR is very good at supporting this process, but it would be helpful if the "delegates" were in a pre-defined list that you can use in an Action View filter.

Other GTD tools such as the eagerly anticipated OmniFocus do not (look as if they will) provide good support for the above process.
I personally think this feature is essential if you don't want to manage only your own stuff, but also the stuff for which you rely on others. In other word, if you want to do GTD in a corporate or organisational environment, you can't live without good delegation support.

Anyway, these are my thoughts on it, for what they're worth.

In the meantime, I am starting to move all my stuff from kGTD to TR2 (painful...) so I'm counting on this to fly, and waiting for user-defined Project Views with filters :-) !!!

I use Delegated a lot (to Jeremy of course or the Post Office when I am waiting for a package, or if I am waiting for an answer from someone). And for me the Follow-up date ensures that you don't think about it anymore, you will be reminded on that date.

The maintenance of a list of 'Delegated to' is foreseen.
