Patience is a virtue, Stuart.

I'm sure my wife would tell you I have no virtues :)

Truth be told, it's nearly knocking off time in the UK and I was hoping to get the new version on my machine before going home, otherwise I'll prolly have to wait until Monday.

I don't want to delay you from going home but Jeremy should be uploading it soon (it is past midnight here!).

It's uploading now - probably take about 15 minutes though.

Bum! Time to go.

Jeremy, you can go to bed now; let 'em all wait

Have a good weekend all (I suspect a lot of you are going to be playing with v2).

As much fun as it was to watch Stuart's dreams be crushed, back onto only-slightly-derailed-topic...

Add my vote for a return of the buttons. For me, it's a memory thing. I have a hard time remembering keyboard shortcuts. Have a hard time remembering much of anything...which is why TR 'rocks out LOUD' as someone so perfectly put it.

I would also personally vote for buttons being added back in. As I switch daily from my laptop Mac to my desktop and laptop PCs, I have a hard enough time trying to track hotkeys on the OS I use and generally use menus and buttons within apps. Keyboard shortcuts and "right-clicking" are also almost impossible on a plane where I'm lucky to be able to reach the trackpad and see the screen at the same time (stupid coach class).

Thanks for the great app!

Jeremy and Claire,

pleaaaaaaase get all buttons back which have been dropped and add plenty more of them.

What follows may sound a little bit like ranting. Please excuse me in advance. No harm intented. I just wanted to make my point of view clear. You and others may have other opinions. It would be nice if you'd take my ideas as food for thought.

Dropping buttons and hiding commands behind a right mouse click or a keyboard-shortcut will shy new users away. Please be reminded that everything which is not obvious leads to questions or will be considered non-existant. Yes, I know the answer is RTFM. But the very first and few impressions make someone like or dislike an application. Nobody is reading manuals anymore. If you plan on getting more donations the user base has to be enhanced, the "old" users may donate once or twice but after that it is more likely that they stop giving money away unless another one of those (unGtDlike) power features they drool for has been implemented. And yes I sometimes belong to those drooling guys too  . Newbies should be able to download, be completely smitten, click around and intuively go to work. TR should be their tool to Get things Done and not a tool getting in their way.

A nice and userfriendly UI will always support mouse AND keyboard and not mouse OR keyboard. I observe myself constantly shying away from several applications higly praised by so called experts and powerusers (one may call them geeks as well  ). Please lead me and other users by the hand by offering buttons, popups, mouseovers, wizards, assistants, dialog warnings and all that fancy GUI stuff available.

So my wishes for the near future are. Fix the bugs to get the final release of 2.0 out. After that stop adding new features and intensively work on making the app more easily to use and more streamlined. Actualize the Demos of TR, make several levels of help. Try to imagine some 50+ peoples (by the way the biggest market of the upcoming years, the baby boomers are getting older) who use their Macs or Pcs just like they use their cars. Buy it (aka download), Open the door (aka install), turn the key (aka start application) and drive (use the application). Nobody wants to search for the steering wheel or the gas pedal,or peeling layers of some dark material from the windshield ... Things have to be at a place where they are expected or where they cannot be overseen.

I imagine that kind of work is much less fun than developing new features.

I got myself my first mac ever just on thursday and greatly failed on installing TR 2.0 the first time. I'll give the beta a second try today and will see if I succeed. After 17 years of constant windows use I am once again back at the newbie level of computing. My first impressions are between admiration and deep frustration. It is always good to start all over to make the newbie experience once again and get a better understanding for people who fell themself less experienced.

Volker

Vauha27, I say bravo to your post! You expressed it very well, and I am very disappointed we even have to ask for this explicitely: there is no question there should be other more obvious ways of performing most basic actions like adding a project or adding an action, and what better ways than a button? I for one sorely miss those buttons from TR 1.2.3 (an I am still in my twenties! ;))
