I'm not sure what presumably obvious thing I'm missing, but I can't figure out how to add a new next action without process a new thought.

Specifically when I am in the project review screen, I cannot find a button or shortcut command to create a new next action.

What am I missing?

Select the project you wish to add an action to, and either right-click, or press F2.

Thanks!

My F2 just changes the screen brightness (working on a PowerBook G4) and there is no right mouse button, but with your response I tried a control click on the project which brought up the "right click" menu and worked.

I kind of miss the add action button, to be honest.

Looking forward to testing out all the cool new features. Thanks J&C

Hmm - my "add action" seems to be greyed out. F2 doesn't work either. Any idea why?

The Add action should be available on projects and not be greyed out - make sure the project is selected properly.

F2 was probably a bad choice as it probably used for something else. We will change this (for 2.0 proper) and at some point allow users to change the shortcut keys assigned.

When you say the next action button is greyed out, which screen are you on?

I'm using the project review screen. This is an example:

http://www.zzamboni.org/brt/wp-content/ ... jects2.jpg

I don't see a next action button and the only way I've found to add an action or project is to right-click (or control-click) to bring up a pop-up menu with those options. F2 would be an option depending on your keyboard settings.

I'd like to have a one click button for new action on this screen. Is there some setting I've accidentally toggled?

There is no tool bar button for adding actions or projects any more. As you said, you can right-click (or control-click) and select the Add Action or Add Project menu items. The short-cut keys should also work except that F2 is probably being used by something else on some systems - its ok on mine. We will change to use F3 and F4 and later allow users to change these.

If enough people really want more buttons, I could be persuaded to put some back on.

My opinion: I'm really fine without the buttons. I'll take an extensive keyboarding system over buttons any day. On that note, kudos for making the shortcuts more Mac standard.

Jeremy, just an observation from a poor windoze user; I would noremally consider it 'A Bad Thing' to have options that are only accessable in the way (context-menu/shortcut key). There should IM(not so humble)O always be a menu and/or toolbar option to do the same thing. I don't know this for certain, but I suspect less able users (eg people using screen readers) might have problems with the current approach.

As I say, just my tuppenceworth.

That does sound vaguely familiar - think I did a HCI subject somewhere sometime. We probably should have menu items for these options and maybe we could put some buttons back. We will add it to the list of changes.

BTW the windows version is coming very soon - probably about an hour away

Mere pixels cannot express adequately how impressed I am with you and Claire. As my son would say, "You rock out loud!" (with skinny eight-year old arms extended overhead in mock-rockstar fashion)

I would vote for a return of the add action and add project buttons above the project tree in both the project review page and the actions page.

Patience is a virtue, Stuart. Of course, if you used a Mac.....

Add my vote for a return of the buttons. For me, it's a memory thing. I have a hard time remembering keyboard shortcuts. Have a hard time remembering much of anything...which is why TR 'rocks out LOUD' as someone so perfectly put it.
