I'm a newbie here to TR and I've downloaded & installed (on XP SP2). I can't seem to get the email function to work. Do I have to pay as a member for it to work? Here's the IDE log: (parital)

Code:
SEVERE [tr.email]: Connect failed
javax.mail.MessagingException: Connect failed;
  nested exception is:
        java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect
        at com.sun.mail.pop3.POP3Store.protocolConnect(POP3Store.java:161)
        at javax.mail.Service.connect(Service.java:288)
        at javax.mail.Service.connect(Service.java:169)
        at au.com.trgtd.email.EmailUtils.connect(EmailUtils.java:94)
        at au.com.trgtd.email.Email.retrieve(Email.java:76)

No you need to be a member to get it to work.

Are you behind a proxy server? The Javamail function does not work if you have a proxy server.

Not behind a proxy.

also I'm not sure this is a member issue. Here's what I did:

1. downloaded a Java based email client (which supports IMAP protocol).
2. it connects to my email (outlook/exchange) just fine.
3. downloaded a Java based email server
4. put test emails on my local email server in an IMAP-based account.
5. tried to connect to it from thinkingrock
6 it works fine for the local email server.

So TR doesn't connect to an exchange server, but does connect to my local email server. However, a different java-based email client connects to my exchange server with no prob (except that I can't seem to send mail from it).

I'm guessing that the issue is the way javamail has been implemented (pop3 only perhaps) in TR. Or, I may have a ports/firewall issue perhaps?

I'm trying to connect to an Outlook Mailbox btw.

I've done more & more testing and I've determined that TR uses POP3 to connect to email? Is this correct?

i don't see an option for IMAP email ?

No, it is only POP3 at the moment. I will add IMAP on our list and we will try to solve it soon.

I'm using a pop account and can't get email integration to work as well for some reason. The strange thing is that it seemed to initially work when I first tried it, but ever since has failed to properly load email messages. It's a very useful potential feature so I would appreciate any suggestions!

Hoping that IMAP email is implemented soon since some of us are still on Lotus Notes...

Hi there,

I would like to add a thought:

what is the use of having TR delete my e-mails from the server, anyway?
After all, I can't use TR as an e-mail client and as the thing works right now, thunderbird finds my inbox empty whenever TR goes to import thoughts.

I think I haven't quite grasped the way this is supposed to work.

I would love IMAP access to e-mails (my regular e-mails), because very often, they require some kind of action and are by definition TR thoughts.
