I am going through the new reports, trying to find out if they cover everything that I might need of a report.

What I notice, is that the old 'Actions by context' report is not available in the new reports.

You have new reports that show actions with a certain status and context, and you can make a report of single actions from a certain context, but there is no new report that collects all the actions of a certain context (regardless of their status or the fact that they are single actions/project actions). For me, such a report is very handy to have.

Maybe it can be made available in future versions ?

You have the Do ASAP by context report. We thought that for Scheduled and Delegated actions, the context is not that important. Try like that and let us know if still necessary. Have you try the Weekly Review report?

You are right that the DoASAP by context report collects most of the actions from a certain context, but (at least in my system) not all of them.

E.g.:
I have a separate context for every employee or coworker that I meet with regularly (an agenda, you could say). Do ASAP actions in this context represent things that I have to ask them or tell them, and Delegated Actions are things that I have already delegated to them, and still need to follow up by a certain date.

With the current new reports, there is no way to get all these actions in one list.

About the weekly review report: I've looked at it briefly. I don't use a lot of due dates on my actions (precisely because I do a weekly review each Friday and catch the ones that are getting urgent - then I make them a scheduled action), so there is not a lot in this report right now.

How does it assist you in your weekly review ?

Hi Claire,

any chance the 'old' context report (all actions of a certain context, regardless of their status) will make it to the new reports in one of the future updates ?

I used this report regularly, and I miss it now that the old reports don't work anymore …

The new Do ASAP report sorted by context is not enough for me, as I have actions with different statuses in one context.

Thanks !

We will do for a future update. The old report is still working for me.

That's strange …

When I use the old reports, I get pdf's of empty reports, when I am certain that there are actions to be shown.

Hi Claire & Guzz,

I don't use the report much but I too get a blank report when using that report under file menu.

Using
Product Version: ThinkingRock 2.0.1
Java: 1.6.0_06; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 10.0-b22
System: Windows XP version 5.1 running on x86

Regards

Les

I have managed to reproduce a blank report when I select a specific context in the OLD By context report.

Can you try if you select context 'All'?

Hi Claire,

Works if select all.

Blank report if select specific context.

Regards

Les

We will produce a new 'By context' report which will include all actions shortly. At the moment, the new 'By context' reports only filters Do ASAP actions.

It makes more sense than spending time fixing the old report.

Indeed, when selecting 'all', the old report still works.

Thank you very much for looking into this, and for working on a new 'by context' report.

I really appreciate the support you provide to us, while undoubtedly being very busy working on the program itself.

Did this ever get implemented? I would love to see this too... or even just a way to print the current actions view :|

We still have not done it on the Jasper reports. We will try to fix some reports issues soon.

It's extremely disappointing that the new Thinking Rock STILL does not have a valid, updated Actions by Context report, especially when Jeremy said it would be produced "shortly" 8 months ago. It appears that since the update to 2.2.1, the "old" Actions by Context report is gone. Personally, this report is crucial to Thinking Rock's functionality since I had grown accustomed to printing a master actions list to take with me and have at my fingertips whenever I wanted to review ALL of my actions. The other options available currently, such as printing the project outline/single actions/ASAP reports, are not as efficient or organized. Plus, no reports are available to be viewed through Adobe Reader like they once were. The Jasper Reports are inferior. You can't organize actions by context, topic, or status, or you have to print individual reports for each classification you want to make - a waste of time and paper. The other option is to export your reports, but I don't know how to use XML (I doubt many people do), and the text reports are even less aesthetically pleasing than the Jasper Reports.

Despite my stern tone, I do appreciate the work you guys have done to make Thinking Rock a useful implementation of GTD. However, right now that usefulness stops at the computer for me. Please tell of any updates being planned in this regard along with a reasonable time-frame we can expect them (something more specific than "shortly" and "soon").

You can now load the 'old' PDF reports.
