I'm an intermediate noob to GTD (about a month) so correct me if I'm wrong. I think it's a good Idea to organize projects in the list from A-Z that way I can find them easier when I want to look at my project list. I am using epsilon and don't see that option.

The only way at the moment is by re-ordering them manually: moving the projects up and down within the tree.

I so, so, so, agree with this request.

I am coming to rely on TR but the big frustration is that after processing thoughts into projects each week I have to spend silly amounts of time dragging them up and down the list to sort them. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't sometimes refuse to stick in the places I drop them. Or, course, disappear into another project if the mouse moves as I relase the button.

It's a list - it really should be sortable. Pretty please. I promise I will donate some more money if you do...

It is not that we don't want to do it. It is difficult to sort a tree. Can you sort the folders on Windows Explorer?

I will talk to Jeremy but maybe he can sort them not dynamically (i.e. when you are editing the tree) but at start-up time (process running on the data file to sort the projects for example). So next time you open the data file and Review your projects, they are ordered. Would that be acceptable?

Of course, this will be an user option as some users might prefer another order.

I'm not a programmer and I'm grateful to those who are but yes, you can sort folders in Explorer and your can sort headings (with their content) in XML documents in some word processors, so it is possible - it may even be that the code is lying around somewhere.

Sorting on opening would be a start... ;-)

I don't know if this may help, but what I do is to start each project with a three digit serial number, like:
001 My Project
002 Another Project
002.1 Sub project
002.2 Another Sub project
003 A Project
etc.

This helps maintain some order in the list. Moreover, my filing system deviates from that proposed by David Allen, in the sense that I file things in this numerical sequence rather than alphabetically.

I'd find project sorting alphabetically very useful.

Just starting to make day to day use of ThinkingRock, and not being able to sort the projects automatically is slowing my workflow, as I've already got about 20-odd projects to search through.

Top tip about moving them manually in the tree! Didn't know you could do that.

A 'sort list' option in the right-click menu would be perfect. As Argel mentioned this is similar to sorting folders in Explorer.

Would be useful but as Claire says, would need to be a user option. I am currently 'hung over' from my Life Balance days where I was in the habit or ordering the list by *importance* ... so that 'Watch more sunsets' (my wished for home life) comes at the top and my work projects are ordered beneath that with things like 'staff development' at the top.

Not sure if this has any bearing on the sorting of actions in the Actions view? Of course, LB attempted to do that dynamic sorting based on importance ...
