In the Mac GTD apps I have used (OF and things) I can have a global hotkey to quickly get something out of my mind. Later I can process it.

F6 can do that in TR . . . but not when it is not the active app. Is there a way to have this type of functionality in TR? If not, what are workarounds that others use? Like some other light note app that could have a hotkey and capture thoughts.

On my Mac I use Quicksilver for this.
I have a hot key 'trigger' (Command-Option-T, for "Thought") which appends the entered text into a file ("Thoughts.txt") and which I later import into Thinking Rock.

Go to Quicksilver->Triggers
The object is the text file to add to ("~/Documents/Thinking Rock/Thoughts.txt" in my case), the action is "Append Text..." and leave the rest blank. Assign a hotkey, and you're good to go.

Later, at the Collect Thought screen, you can Import Thoughts from the file.
It's not perfect -- there's no way to enter notes for a given thought, or set the topic -- but it works pretty well.

I use autohotkey and it works flawlessly.
