Its mid-march, is the iphone app going to be landing on our phones anytime soon? I've been looking for updates a couple times a day for the last week.

Thanks

It will be delayed. Jeremy has to follow the learning curve of developing for iPhone.

Claire, is there anything that we can do to help out? Either testing, or code review etc?

Is the Iphone code going to be open source as well?

Cheers
S8.

It is more the programming/design side.

Jeremy is looking at how the synchronisation should work. Any technical/design suggestions are welcome. Examples of questions:
- shall we synchronise only changes?
- what happens if user changes an action on the iPhone and on the desktop - shall we assume not?
- is it OK for the first phase to synchronise at a desktop and not through the web?

If any iPhone developer wants to help, we are happy to deliver it as open source.

Im all for keep it simple on this....detect a change on both since the last sync and have the user nominate one to use as the final version.

To my mind this is ALL I want...or more correctly, i don't want to be forced to have another online account so an option of just syncing over wi-fi is highly desirable to me (I accept opinion might be devided on this one)

I wouldn't call myself an iphone developer yet, but i have spent some time looking into it.

For me, the only things i really want in the first phase of iphone dev are
1. ability to capture new tasks on the iphone and transfer across
2. ability to view a list of tasks by context and tick off ones i've done.

these two things are enough to satisfy my "out and about" requirements.
for instance, i want to be able to record thoughts thoughout the day (preferably with a landscape keyboard for my fat fingers) and to find out what i needed to do at a context (eg. "electronics store") and tick off the items.

Cheers
S8

Any part of TR that I can get on my iPhone is going to have an immediate positive impact on my GTD system. Even if it was a read only task list that could view by context, or sort on different fields or some such

As for syncing, I would keep it very simple for the time being. Don't allow freeform modifications.

Create new thoughts. Mark actions as done/undone. Append notes.

if the task has been deleted, just drop the modifications and forget about it.
Since notes would only be appended to, there is no merging that would need to happen.
If done/undone conflicted, you could use a timestamp, or just pick one.

I agree...even the ability to record notes on the go and auto import them to TR would be a start.

I would like to put a case forward for allowing a landscape keyboard for note import. Those of us with fat fingers find it much more accurate than the portrait version.

Can't we already essentially do this? Right now when out I'm simply emailing on my Iphone to a dedicated email address any notes that I want to appear in TR. When I next open TR, I have it set to auto-import any emails sent to that address as Thoughts which I can then process as per usual...

How's the iPhone app comming? What kind of time frame are we looking at? Is the bulk of development time going to go into the app itself, or the synchronization of the data? If most of the dev time is going to be in the sync part of the app, could you release a read only view by context before getting into the sync part?

I am expecting to start some testing within the next few weeks. The sync is now working. As soon as I start testing, I will post a summary of the functionality.
