Hi,
I have quickly checked if I can compile my code for SmartPhones. Unfortunately, that would need some modifications of the code, since SP can not use some controls (like buttons) that I use in the actual version. If I have time, I could try to convert these functions through other controls (I imagine that SP mainly use menus, am I wrong?). But I can not make any promise at this moment because I am very busy with the starting new semester.

Best regards,

Murat

PS. I have not seen yet any new posts about the iPhone version.

Dear Murat,

yes you are right, smartphones are using menus instead of buttons and other controls which need a cursor to controll.

Thank you very much, you are a very kind person. I really want to help you with the development of your ppc client. If you want, I would try to add the possibility to mark done actions on the client and sync it with TR.

Best regards,
David

PS: I think my email topic reply notification is working correctly.

Hi,

I developed an application for the Windows Mobile Smartphone platform a while ago, since I couldn't use Yildi's application as well.
The application is mainly meant to easily enter/store thoughts which can be imported into ThinkingRock, and to browse exported actions sorted on context or topic. See for more info http://www.trgtd.com.au/forum/viewtopic ... ileactions

The application is written in C#.

regards,

charlieMOGUL

Hi Daps,

Now I'm the one that has to be excused for the late reply.

I'll be happy to help with suggestions. I think the most important thing a TR app should have is an easy way to sync with the desktop and an easy way to find information by combining different categories (priority, context, topic, etc).

Being able to add data would be nice but to me this is not the most important feature a portable GTD application should have. After many years of experimenting with all kinds of electronic devices (PDAs with pens or keyboards, netbooks, a tablet PC notebook...), I've reached the conclusion that there is nothing like paper for input at the moment. Well, OK, a laptop or netbook can be really good for input, but because of their form factor they are not very practical. You still cannot carry a netbook in your pocket.

If you want to introduce a phone number or a REALLY short note, that's OK, but anything more than that is a real pain.

So, I think the app that Yildi developed is a good starting point. If you look at the comments I made about the current shortcomings I see in Yildi's application (lack of automatic synchronization and problems with the visualization of actions/projects), you can get a sense of the direction I would like future applications to go.

It would be nice to be able to sync TR to your smart mobile phone in the same way you do now with Outlook via ActiveSync. It would be nice to be in a context and be able to check what actions you have associated to that context and sort them by different criteria (priority, topic, etc.).

Actually, I forgot one important feature I think a TR mobile app should have. One should be able to tick off actions so that they would be marked as 'done' in the main TR installation when you sync with the desktop again.

Hi Charlie,

Do you have a link to download your application? I haven't been able to find it anywhere on the page you linked to.

Another vote for making TR work with Windows Mobile. (Have HTC TYTN, another common model, with touchscreen), I think that a lot of hackers/developers and other types who love TR are also WM users because WM offers so much possible customization and tweaking (more in my view than iphones, just MHO). I've tried the existing app for WM that exists and although it's a great first step, an app that would really work would be fully synced to the desktop version of TR

I'm not the original poster, but I would love to be able to access TR via my BlackBerry.

And sorry for dredging up an old thread...

i second the thumbs up for TR for windows mobile (pocket pc such as ipaq)

apple products have the best looks, and great interface, I just love it and send them kudos. but it does not go beyond that, and I really regret that their "image/brand over substance" strategy makes their crapware so popular to the point that developments of real quality products such as THINKINGROCK!!! are headed toward apple.. it's not fair :(

I do have an ipod so I know very well their slavery bloatware, abusive commercial tactics and the pathetic file management they do with users' computers... of course i will never ever buy another crap form apple.. and that is why there are sites "anything but ipod": they are the worst, really

I tried Yildi's pocke pc companion, which would be essential if it just supported NOTES for the input thoughts tray. thoughts are seldom a "title" or subject: they are ideas: rather expressed in paragraphs , not with a single line. then tr ppcc is frustratingly useless for this regard

Yildi, any chance to include notes for thoughts?

many thanks

Hi Claire,

i am still reviewing TR and its possibilities if it could be the solution fo me.
It looks great, and has o lot of interesting features.
one of the missing features for me is an mobile companion, wher i could even
- enter thougts
- look for actions, that i can do (sorted by some criteria, at least the context, status and priority)
- check actions to be done
- and synchronize all this with my Desktop TR

I have an Palm Treo 680 device, from Palm is an JVM (based on IBM Websphere) available which supports CLDC 1.1 And MIDP2.0.

The smartphone has an 320x320 touchscreen, and an built in keyboard.

- Will you suport the Palm Treos ?
I could test any software on this device, and even do minor changes (i am an C++ experienced programmer and a java, J2ME beginner. But i assume i can learn the ropes).

- Will this software be available for free ?

- Will this software have all of the features if mentioned at the beginning ?

Best Regards

Ralf
