Hi,

There are already numerous posts asking and talking about mobile versions of ThinkingRock. I am curious how many users would be interested in such a companion, and if so, on which platform.
Yildi for one has made a PocketPC companion (http://www.thinkingrock.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1622)

Personally I like his idea of a companion instead of running the full-fledged ThinkingRock application on your mobile phone. Keep ThinkingRock the main application for handling all the data, and use other outlets as input/output devices.

Claire/Jeremy: Would it be an idea to create a new forum thread for the mobile companion(s)/version(s)/suggestions ?

Disclaimer: I whipped up a very simple 'MobileActions' application for the Windows Mobile platform. It is mainly targeted to easily enter and store thoughts (input), and to review actions/reference/someday-maybe items (output). It shows actions grouped by topic or context. I'm also curious to see whether this would benefit other ThinkingRock users.

I've voted for "other" (nokia n800). I'm currently using notecase on a nokia n800 as my TR companion, much like an electronic pocketmod. notecase runs on a whole load of platforms and here's a screenshot of my n800 "pocketmod" running on ubuntu (I don't have a screenshot program installed on the n800 at the moment, but it looks the same). I export actions as text from TR, then have a little script that massages them into the (simple) notecase format.

It is easy to add new thoughts, cross out completed items etc. I then manually sync with TR by going through the list (as I used to with the paper pocketmod).

I voted for iphone even though I don't have one yet, will probably get one in a couple of months - I think this would be the most beneficial choice for TR adoption in the long term and would also allow the developers to sell it on Apple's site and get a return. While I don't know what it would look like, I think there needs to be a relatively full featured application to maximize consumer uptake with the option of syncing with the desktop version somehow. There is definitely a market for a stand alone portable version but I would want sync capability initially not added on later.

Thought collection and ticking off actions would be quite enough for a start, too. You could organize the tasks on the computer, just like you do with your playlists in iTunes, and just have what you need while your on your way.

Given that Blackberry is basically a Java OS, it looks like the best candidate for reapplying existing code.

I hate syncing my Blackberry to my PC using the USB. For that reason I use Over-the-Air synchronization whenever possible.

Therefore, what I would like to see is a client program running from either a PC, Blackberry or other mobile device using an IMAP server or Gmail as the back-end database. Having some store-and-forward capability for those times without internet access would be the ice in the cake. This would be the most cross-platform architecture with record level synchronization capability.

Check http://imapfs.sourceforge.net/ or the more developed http://richard.jones.name/google-hacks/ ... ystem.html

I voted Other, with Nokia N800/N810 in mind. A full version of TR would be excellent on the N810!

With the N810, the GPS could be used to automate the selection of the current Context.

e.g. Arrive home, open TR and @Home is selected as the current context. Each context could have a radius (from GPS location) or other simple logic associated with it to select the context.
