First post on this forum- hello!

I tried to make a back up DVD by saving the files in the picture below to DVD. (I'm not sure if this is the correct way to back up TR files?- I don't think it is)

Image

Then I opened the DVD using TR; internet explorer then opened itself and tried to launch information, that I don't think loaded properly. I shut that down and tried to open my normal file, that I dragged to my desktop earlier in the day (as pictured above).

Now when I load the file on my desktop I get:

The picture and (JAVA script?) below was 'screen captured' and copied and pasted at my first attempt to load from the DVD or desktop (I cant remember which).

As you can tell I don't have a clue what I'm doing, and I've got myself into a mess.

I've spent a few hours inputting data from 'Mindjet MindManager'- I hope I haven't lost all of it. Rationally I don't think I have because I haven't deleted anything. *fingers crossed*

If you close the error message can you use TR's menu "file">"open" to open your data file? The two files should be in a folder that you can read and write to (without an extra burn step).

Thanks for the reply, Bob.

Now when I open TR I get these two messages:

And the details are:

java.lang.IllegalStateException: Assertion failed. WindowsAPI is required to be called from AWT thread only, see http://core.netbeans.org/proposals/threading/
at org.netbeans.core.windows.WindowManagerImpl.assertEventDispatchThreadWeak(WindowManagerImpl.java:1460)

at org.netbeans.core.startup.NbInstaller.load(NbInstaller.java:340)
at org.netbeans.ModuleManager.enable(ModuleManager.java:936)
at org.netbeans.core.startup.ModuleList.installNew(ModuleList.java:428)
at org.netbeans.core.startup.ModuleList.trigger(ModuleList.java:364)

at org.netbeans.core.startup.TopThreadGroup.run(TopThreadGroup.java:110)
[catch] at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

Clearing that, then going, 'File' > 'Open' leads to this:

Pressing open leads to:

It is looking for your data file and finding RevewActions.xml. This is not your data file but a file that shows the screen layouts. You need a file that is something like "ThinkingRock.trx" or whatever you may have named the file. In your earlier posting you showed the file on your DVD drive but you wont be able to run from there.

It is not normal that you get there Java error messages at start-up. Which java version do you have?

My Java version was 1.6.0_03

I have now updated to 1.6.0_06

There hasn't been any changes.

The IllegalStateException message was caused by the initial exception message. You can ignore that one.

The real problem is that you need to open your TR data file (and NOT ReviewActions.xml). The TR data file usually has a .trx extension - but may just have .xml

And, as JavaBob pointed out, you should not open it from the DVD drive as TR will not be able to save any changes.

Searching for files with ‘.trx’ in the name, finds nothing

Searching for files with ‘.xml’ finds a lot of files.

Please could you tell me where the default save location is, and what it’s called?

The default location is your user home folder. On windows that is the folder above your Documents folder.

By the looks of your DVD saving attempt it is named ThinkingRock or Thinking Rock maybe with .xml or .trx extension or maybe without an extension

I deleted TR and all the associated files, downloaded again and installed. The backup files were easy to find and everything is straight foward. However I cant remember seeing these files on the previous install, and 'search '.trx' didn't find anything :?. I think the burning to CD may have been a red herring?
