In HyperEditorPane.java:

When you click the edit toggle button (editButton) and editToggleButtonActionPerformed is called, if you comment out the call to hyperPane.setCaretPosition, the caret is still put to the end of the text anyway. In fact if you put some code on the catch statement and set a breakpoint, it always sends an exception. Similarly removing the hyperPane.setCaretPosition in hyperPaneMouseClicked has no effect (e.g. it still doesn't work).

I haven't yet found where the caret *is* being set from though.

Also I have found that double click to edit of course doesn't work right, but if you double click with your right button, or your middle button if you have it, it *does* in fact work as it is supposed to. So something is handling the left button double click and overriding what we want to happen.
